Psalm 98:5-6
Round up an orchestra to play for God,
Add on a Hundred-Voice Choir
Feature trumpets and big trombones;
Fill the air with praises to our God.
Abba’s Instruments, in all of its forms, exists to assist in leading worship through the playing of musical instruments. Our goals are simple:
- To serve the Lord through the use of the talents He has given us.
- To minister to the body through the playing of our instruments.
- To lead the way into the presence of the Lord
It is our desire to achieve these goals through fervent prayer, focused rehearsal and free worship.
Who We Are
Abba's Instruments is comprised of woodwind, brass, string and rhythm musicians. Style and genre experience is not that important. We live by our motto, “Let’s Play!” That said, we are not simply a bunch of musicians, but we are instead a band of members called to support the worship ministry of Abba’s House.
How Do I Join?
Membership is open to anyone who plays a musical instrument and can show a necessary level of skill. Musicians of all levels have found their place in Abba's Instruments. All you need to do to join Abba's Instruments is to call the Pastor of Instrumental Worship at (423) 877-6462, ext 297. The audition process involves coming to and participating in rehearsals until such a time as we can agree on each players' readiness to participate in the services and special events. Please call for more information if you are interested in one of these positions.
When is rehearsal?
Rehearsal is every Sunday afternoon at 1:45 in the Orchestra Rehearsal Room on Level 1 of Abba’s House. Special rehearsals are called as the need arises and there is a recurring orchestra fellowship once a quarter, which sometimes includes a rehearsal.
What kind of commitment is involved?
It is imperative that you be called of God to be a part of this important ministry. However, we also believe in empowering you to serve the Lord as He leads and not as we need. That said, there are a few events throughout the year that are looked at as “all hands on deck.” For these important occasions, your participation is considered mandatory.
I do not have an instrument. Can I still join?
The church has only a few instruments that we may loan to individuals who want to play. We can help you find special deals on instruments through our many contacts who are retailers and music educators. If that is not a possibility for you, then talk to us and we’ll see how God may provide.
If I need more time to develop, where can I get help?
The first place is right here. Those who feel a call to the ministry are encouraged to come to rehearsals for as long as it might take to reach a level of comfort. Sometimes that is all that is required. Also, we have many talented musicians who can offer help on most instruments. We also have many contacts in the area who offer private instruction. We’d love to help you find a way to grow in music. Let us know how we can help.
