Porch Witness Ministries is an evangelism ministry designed to reach a generation that has turned their back on God. It is a ministry designed to Harvest souls and help churches Go and Grow. Following a renewed call to the ministry in the spring of 2005, Ronnie Phillips Jr., Abba’s House Pastor of Outreach and Evangelism, delivered a message to the Central Baptist church family just a few months prior to moving into what we now know as Abba’s House. He released the message of PORCH.
This message encouraged the people of Abba’s House to return to their evangelistic roots. Since 2005, the church has seen many new converts saved and baptized. The church has also seen many people return to their relationship with the Lord.
The word Porch comes from John chapter 5. This is the passage where Jesus healed the man at the pool of Bethesda, and is one of the seven signs recorded by John. The word Bethesda means “House of Mercy” in Hebrew.
Pastor Ronnie explained, “Every church should have a ‘Bethesda’ quality about it. Jesus taught us that. A church should love the sick, the sinner, the drug addict, the alcoholic, the prostitute, the educated, the uneducated, the rich, the poor, the religious, the non-religious, red, yellow, black or white. While churches argue over their petty differences, there are people hurting all around us and that need a fresh touch from God. That is what Porch is all about.”
“I believe that today’s church and especially my generation is very much like the man at the Pool of Bethesda. We have been sitting around waiting for God to do something supernatural in our generation; we have sat around feeling sorry for ourselves, making excuses for why we can’t go on with God or why we can’t serve God faithfully. We blame others for our problems, and all the while God is telling us to ‘rise’ and fulfill the purpose he has for us.”
Pastor Ronnie honestly confessed, “I had to come to a place in my life where I was completely broken and where I had to admit that I was a sinner and that I had messed up by walking away from my relationship with Jesus Christ. But thank God, He never walked away from me. It is time for this generation to rise, take up its bedroll and walk.”
At the Pool of Bethesda there were five porches where the sick would lay waiting for the stirring of the water. The biblical definition of Porch is an open veranda, vestibule, or an entrance to the outside of a building. A PORCH is always on the outside of a building. “The PORCH ministry is designed to reach people outside the church walls. If a person is lost and has never accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior, then PORCH is the entrance or the starting point to a new relationship with Jesus Christ. If a person is away from God, then again PORCH is designed to be the entry way back to a relationship with Christ. If a person has been hurt by the local church, then Porch Witness Ministries is an entry way back to the body of Christ.
“I have seen souls saved in every venue I have been in for the past two years. My goal is to see people saved, but it is also to leave your church with a good core of leaders who will help the Pastor with outreach and evangelism opportunities in their community.” reported Pastor Ronnie.
The word "PORCH" is an evangelism tool that you can use to lead your friends to the Lord.
Praise (P stands for Praise. Share your personal testimony and give God praise)
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD. NIV
Outreach: (O is for Outreach. Tell people why you are sharing with them. I am telling you what God has done in my life because Jesus called us to witness.) Mark 16:14-18
Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. Real: (R is for REAL.) Tell them that Jesus Christ was a real person. He loved everyone including the sinners. Jesus did not get so caught up in religion that he forgot to love people. Jesus Christ hung out with sinners, not religious people. Jesus Christ was real and can be real in your life. No matter where you’ve been or what you’ve gone through, he still loves you and wants to have a genuine relationship with you.
Luke 4:18-19
The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD. NKJV
Cross: (C is for Cross) Get them to the Cross. We should never forget what Jesus Christ did for us at Calvary. Jesus Christ was beaten and murdered so that our sins could be forgiven. His sacrifice is the driving force behind Porch Witness Ministries.
1 Corinthians 15:3-8
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. NIV
Heaven: (H is for Heaven) The greatest miracle is the gift of eternal life through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God has the power to heal our infirmities, our sinful pasts, and our broken hearts.
John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
