Abba’s House (Central Baptist Church) is holding it’s first Homecoming to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the church. Founded in 1951, the church was started after fire destroyed Hixson First Baptist.
Abba’s House (Central Baptist Church) is holding it’s first Homecoming to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the church. Founded in 1951, the church was started after fire destroyed Hixson First Baptist. According to records kept by Elsie Welch, one of the charter members, the founders were strongly convicted of the need to start a centrally located church in the heart of the growing community of Hixson. Welch’s notes say, “…this new building, which now has only a fully equipped and modern basement, is the beginning of what is to be one of the most modern church buildings in the community, planned with the future growth of Hixson and the church in mind.” That dream has come true, as Abba’s House not only houses the area’s first high definition television production facility, but also is host to concerts, conferences and other gatherings for artists and ministries throughout the nation.

In 1979, the church called Ron Phillips as Senior Pastor, a position he still holds today. In addition to the local outreach to Chattanooga, Ron Phillips Ministries broadcasts a weekly international television program and a daily 15 minute radio show.

Over the years, Central Baptist has grown and changed and even taken on a new name, Abba’s House. Through the years, a great many people have contributed to the life of Abba’s House. To celebrate the anniversary, all members and former members are invited to come to Homecoming at Abba's House to see all that God has done in the last 57 years.

The celebration begins at 10:30 a.m. with the main worship service. At noon, all the LIfeGroups (Sunday School) will tailgate and picnic together. There will be plenty of food for all guests and former members.

At 1:30 p.m., the celebration will move back inside the worship center for an afternoon of music with Sonlife and Testimony Quartet. There will be no evening service that night.
